Virginia Pearson

Virginia was born the second child of Forest and Emma (Spahn) Rooney in Chicago, Illinois on July 12, 1919. She attended Fenger High School in Chicago, Illinois.

Virginia worked at Gamble Hinged Music Company, Commercial Credit Company and the Chrysler Plant during the war years of World War II.

She met Robert Scott Pearson on a blind date arranged by friends. Out of school and employed at the time, they were engaged for three years before marrying on April 23, 1941. They were married for nearly 50 years prior to his death in 1987. At the end of her life she knew on April 23, 2012 she would have been married 71 years to her beloved husband.

The first ten years of the marriage they lived with Virginia's aunt (who had raised her) in her home. As Mr. Pearson was a Master Sergeant in the Army, he was sent to Europe, serving in Germany during World War II and thus the pair was apart for four of the early years of their marriage. Still living with her aunt at the time, Virginia maintained employment during Robert's absence. Upon her husband's return from war, Virginia was happily kept busy making a home when their children were born. She and Robert were blessed with both a son (Scott Pearson) and a daughter (Kathleen Pearson Oedzes). They bought their first home in Dolton, Illinois after the birth of their second child. At 89 she sold her home of 50 plus years.

Virginia was loved by all. She was a very kind and nurturing person. She volunteered at her children's school, church and community. She credited her long life to a lifetime of walking and bike riding (she never drove a car). She enjoyed living at Bethlehem Woods in laGrange Park, Illinois in the last years of her life with the many friends she had there. She was an avid reader her whole life riding her bike or walking to the library. She became a member of Good Shepherd Evangelical lutheran church in 2008. She was preceeded in death by Nora Walzer, Wyona Rooney, Margaret Rooney, Vaughn Rooney, and Dolores Grcich. She is survived by Frieda Nakoff, her sister; Scott Pearson, her son; Kathleen (John) Oedzes, her daughter; grandchildren Bryan Scott Oedzes and Bradley John Oedzes; great-grandchildren Kyle Robert Oedzes and Abby Nicole Oedzes.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 30 at 11:00 A.M. at Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church, 525 63rd St. in Downers Grove. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the church.
